Starting a Family
Methodist is the long-time metro area leader in birth services, delivering a more comprehensive array of family planning options - and more babies! - than any other hospital in the region.
Whether you desire a delivery assisted by a certified midwife or an obstetrician, the 192Dodge campus and the Methodist Physicians Clinic Women's Center provide excellent, experienced providers. Our teams of providers are located steps away from the hospital and are part of the largest obstetrical / gynecological practice in the region.
In addition, Methodist physicians also see obstetrical patients at Methodist Physicians Clinic Indian Hills and, for patients who would like to deliver in Iowa, our Methodist Physicians Clinic Council Bluffs location.
Birth Services at Methodist Women's Hospital
At Methodist Women’s Hospital, we want to provide you with a birth experience as individual as the new person on the way. We have created the perfect environment to support your preferences:
We offer bedside check-in. When you arrive to deliver your baby, you are taken to your private labor and delivery room where you can be checked in from the comfort of your bed.
Are you planning to have your baby at Methodist Women's Hospital? Just print the following form, complete it and mail to the address on the form.
All private rooms
Every labor and delivery and mother/baby room is private with necessary medical equipment on hand but out of sight.
Each room features a private shower equipped with hair dryer and natural light. Six of the labor and delivery rooms include Jacuzzis for extra comfort.
Once you deliver your baby, your mother/baby room is equipped with an in-room safe to store your valuables, a small refrigerator, comfortable sleep sofa and recliner, large television and wireless Internet access.
Safe and spacious bathroom
The large, easy-access mother-baby bathroom features handicap rails, adjustable showerhead, hair dryer and motion-sensor lighting. The floor was designed without a shower lip so moms in wheelchairs can roll from the bed to the shower on a level surface.
24-hour food service
Although during labor you will be restricted on your food and water for safety, your support person and family will be able to use our around-the-clock food service for snacks and meals.
Once you have delivered your baby and you are able to resume eating, you will be able to also enjoy the 24 hour room service meals on your schedule.
Throughout the hospital family lounges feature quiet, relaxing areas for your family and friends to gather. The Methodist Women's Hospital also features a chapel and outdoor healing garden.
Our certified lactation consultants offer specialized one-on-one care, instruction and support to help new mothers breastfeed successfully during their stay and after they return home.
Throughout a mother’s stay with us, lactation consultants will provide bedside service. After a mother is discharged, our lactation consultants will be available by phone, e-mail and personal consultation.
To make the most of the breastfeeding experience, plan to visit the Methodist Breastfeeding Boutique, located inside the Methodist Women’s Hospital lobby, within the gift shop. Specially trained personnel will help you select the nursing bra, breast pump and accessories that are right for you and your lifestyle. Nursing bra fittings are available. For more information call (402) 815-1135.
Studies show that mothers and babies benefit greatly when they can spend as much time as possible together after birth, and Methodist Women’s Hospital offers new moms the opportunity to enjoy rooming-in with their babies up to 24 hours a day. For those occasional times that mothers and families may want time alone to rest and recover, babies are welcome to stay in our fully staffed and equipped Level I newborn nursery.
